The spot price of silver was up over 4% so far today, reacting to Janet Yellen’s backtracking regarding an interest rate increase for June. It appears the recent jobs report, the worst in 5 ½ years, was too much to ignore. Perhaps in an attempt to save face, Yellen did not explicitly state an interest rate hike was out of the question, but her words are telling: “The easier course of action is maintain rates at very low levels, risk some inflation and worry about cleaning up the inflation problem down the road.”

Silver stalled in May following the Fed’s surprisingly hawkish language. Citing recent history, we were not terribly concerned by their threats, stressing to you it was in fact an excellent buying opportunity. The last time the Fed blew hot air about a possible rate increase, silver went on a 25% upward tear to start 2016!

The looming ‘Brexit’ vote was also cited as a reason to avoid an interest hike, but that is only adding to the sting of our economy adding a meager 38,000 new jobs during the month of May.
